Asian eSports Channel Expands Reach

Astro has sealed new partnerships in Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia to expand the reach of its eSports channel eGG Network, which was first unveiled at APOS last year.

The service is now available in six countries, with the new markets adding to its existing distribution in Australia, Brunei and Malaysia. The new partnerships were signed with Singtel in Singapore, Globe’s BEAM TV in the Philippines and Orange TV and Genflix in Indonesia.

Lee Choong Khay, VP of the sports business at Astro, noted, “eGG is off to a good start, and we expect it to play a pivotal role in driving expansion for us into new markets. We look forward to more on-ground events to strengthen our offerings for our partners in the region. In October 2016, we collaborated with PGL to bring CS:GO Minor Championship Asia to Malaysia. eSports transcends languages and borders hence opening up unique content creation and advertising opportunities.”

Jil Go, Globe’s VP of content, noted, “Last year, Globe Telecom in the Philippines cemented its partnership with Astro to distribute the Tribe app to give our customers a wider variety of content and this included access to eGG Network. Today, eGG Network is also available as a free-to-air DTT channel via the company’s digital broadcast television partner, BEAM TV. The eSports and gaming community in the Philippines continues to gain ground and we are thrilled with the opportunity to be able to provide these types of content to our customers, whether on their mobile or at the comfort of their homes. Through our original productions arm, Globe LIVE, we are also set to strengthen our events portfolio to give our customers more experiential events to enjoy their favorite content on a larger scale.”

Greeny S Dewayanti, CEO of Genflix, added, “As the first commercial OTT video service in Indonesia, Genflix is partnering with eGG Network to tap into the young millennials who love eSports and watch videos. This partnership aims to grab millennials as our main target audience of Genflix, an affiliate of Orange TV.”
