AsiaPac to Become Top SVOD Market by 2019

The number of SVOD homes around the world is forecast to reach 428 million across 200 countries by 2021, according to Digital TV Research. This 428 million is up from 177 million in 2015 and an expected 248 million by end-2016, according to the Global SVOD Forecasts report.

Global OTT Revenues to Hit $65 Billion

Revenues from OTT TV and video are set to reach $64.78 billion in 2021, surging from the $4.47 billion reported in 2010, according to Digital TV Research. The global OTT TV and video market generated $29.41 billion in 2015.

Global Digital TV Uptake Continues to Surge

The number of homes with digital TV is forecast to increase by 1.08 billion between 2010 and 2021 to 1.67 billion, a spike of 185 percent, according to Digital TV Research. The new edition of the Digital TV World Household Forecasts report, which covers 138 countries, predicts that the digital TV total will climb by 120 million in 2016 alone and by half a billion between 2015 and 2021.

Report: North America to Lose Fewer Pay-TV Subs

The number of pay-TV subs in Canada and the U.S. is predicted to fall from 112 million in the peak year of 2012 to 106 million in 2021, according to the fifth edition of the Digital TV North America Forecasts report. The number of pay-TV subscribers declined by 2 million in 2015. Before 2015, much of the pay-TV fall was attributed to the loss of analog cable subscribers (which still fell by 1.1 million in 2015).

Analysis: Netflix International Pricing High vs. Pay-TV ARPU

Digital TV Research has analyzed the fees that Netflix charges in international markets compared to what pay-TV ARPU is in those countries, finding that the rates appear high in the short term. Looking broadly, Netflix charges $8 per month for one screen, $10 per month for two screens and $12 per month for four screens and HD content in its 130 new territories.
