Social Wit List: November 2017

In November, CBS’s Bruno Mars: 24k Magic Live at the Apollo topped the list of the most-buzzed-about new shows in social media globally, according to The WIT.

The prime-time concert special taped at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City garnered around 89,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter. The internet was buzzing about #WhatAPerformer Bruno Mars is, that he’s #SoFunky and delivered a #Flawless performance, also noting the excitement in the audience: #ApolloCrowdOnFire.

Marvel’s The Punisher debuted on Netflix worldwide and drew around 83,000 tweets. The thriller series follows Marvel Comics’ anti-hero Frank Castle, a rising star detective with the NYPD who moonlights as the vigilante Punisher, seeking justice for those the system has failed. The #BadassHero had the audience buzzing about the #Heartfelt and #Relatable story, though some thought there was #NotEnoughAction.

Harry Styles at the BBC saw the singer perform tracks from his self-titled number one debut album and talk to Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw about his career and life to date. The BBC One broadcast drew around 55,000 social-media comments, with much #Pride, #HarryCraze and #FanLove.

Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie premiered on Nickelodeon in the U.S., stirring up around 46,000 tweets. The spin-off of the 1996 kids’ animated series picks up where the original series ended, resolving unanswered questions and plotlines, including Arnold finally getting answers on the whereabouts of his missing parents. The #Cult hit stirred up a lot of #Nostalgia with audiences tweeting about how #Cute the one-off was and they were surprised (#OMG) by some of the revelations revealed.

Record TV in Brazil debuted Apocalipse, which saw approximately 30,000 tweets. The telenovela is based on the last book of the New Testament but set in a near future. The story follows as Rio de Janeiro is haunted by a serial killer who murders his victims in strange rituals. The #FastPaced show was an #InstantHit with viewers, who appreciated the #FlawlessProduction.

The premiere of Todas las tardes on Canal 9 in Argentina drew some 29,000 comments. The talk show is presented by actress Maju Lozano, who reviews the news in a light manner, along with four regular panelists, focusing on the latest gossip, trends, social media, etc. Viewers tweeting about the show gave #KudostoMaju and #KudostoPanelists and enjoyed the #FastPace and #Entertaining first episode.

YouTube launched Best.Cover.Ever, a singing competition that gives emerging musicians the opportunity to record covers of popular songs from recording artists, starting with Demi Lovato and Katy Perry. The competition culminates in a duet between the winner and the recording artist. Around 26,000 tweets were sent during the broadcast, with a lot of #FanCraze surrounding the #IconicQueens.

Nouvelle Star‘s debut on M6 in France saw approximately 25,000 Facebook and Twitter comments. The series marks a new adaptation of the talent contest Idol, which previously aired on M6 from 2003 to 2010 and C8 from 2012 to 2016. Since there were #LotsofChanges from the original iterations, there were also #DividedReviews. Some #LiketheFeelGoodVibe while others #FindItBoring and wanted producers to #BringBacktheWorstAuditions.

Some 23,000 tweets were sent about the premiere of Kambal, Karibal on GMA Network in the Philippines. The fantasy telenovela tells the story of twins Crisanta and Criselda. After one of them dies and becomes a “spirit,” looking for another person’s body to inhabit, their close bond will start to fall apart when they both fall in love with Diego. The #ExcitingPlot and #GreatCast left audiences saying they #WannaSeeMore.

A Very Pentatonix Christmas, which aired on NBC in the U.S., had around 21,000 tweets. The one-off special saw the a cappella group perform some of their holiday favorites—including a duet with Jennifer Hudson. The #Heartwarming holiday-themed show impressed many of those tweeting online, with much #KudostoJenniferHudson and her #HighNotes: #WOW.
