Social Wit List: June 2018

A talent show on Mnet in South Korea, Produce 48, generated the most buzz on Twitter and Facebook among all the new show premieres around the world in June, according to The WIT.

The spin-off of the talent contest Produce 101, featuring female contestants from Japan and South Korea battling it out to be among the 12 members of a girl band, generated 267,000 mentions as viewers discovered #TalentedContestants and were #RootingForMyFavorite on the #Entertaining series.

In a very distant second place as World Cup fever started to occupy audiences’ viewing time worldwide was Canal #0 Spain’s La Decisión with 48,000 social-media mentions. The documentary unveiling the much-anticipated decision by French football player Antoine Griezmann on his future with the Atletico Madrid football club had audiences tweeting about their #RespectForGriezmannsLoyalty and indicating that they are #GladHeIsStaying while also questioning #WhyIsThisOnTV and finding the special #TooStaged.

FX’s new Ryan Murphy drama Pose had about 35,000 mentions for its #BoldLGBTQRepresentation, #GreatSoundtrack, #AmazingLooks and #KudosForTransgenderActorsAndStaff.

Another World Cup-themed entry landed in fourth place on the June Social Wit List: TF1’s 98—Secrets d’une victoire, with 34,000 mentions. The one-off special featured members of the team that won the trophy that year, allowing audiences to #ReliveTheExcitement.

Pino è, a tribute to the late Italian singer-songwriter Pino Daniele on Rai1, generated some 32,000 mentions with fans #InTears over the #AmazingTribute and noting that #PinoWillStayInOurHearts.

The #VeryAnticipated series from the Marvel universe, Cloak & Dagger on Freeform, had about 29,000 social-media interactions as viewers found themselves #CharmedByTheCast, #LovingThePlotTwists and enjoying the #AmazingSoundtrack. Also on Freeform, iHeartRadio Wango Tango, an annual summer concert, had some 24,000 mentions thanks to #Entertaining and #AmazingPerformances, and audiences are eagerly #LookingForwardTo2019Edition.

After England faced off against Belgium in the final match of the World Cup group stage, ITV broadcast Good Evening Britain, a special evening edition of its flagship morning show. The social-media mentions—about 22,000 of them—included commentary about one of the co-hosts (#PiersMorganIsAnnoying) as well as guests Danny Dyer, Jeremy Corbyn and Pamela Anderson (#WeirdGuests, #PureGold).

Erkenci Kuş, a new drama on Turkey’s Star TV, made the top ten of the Social Wit List for being #MuchAnticipated, but the 20,000 social-media mentions also featured some #MixedFeelings, with some viewers in love with the #GreatCast and others wishing local broadcasters would say #EnoughWithTheRagsToRichesStories.

Rounding out the Social Wit List for June is OWN’s new dramedy Love Is__, with about 16,000 social-media mentions as viewers praised the #RealAndFabulousStory and #AuthenticStruggles of the show’s protagonists in a story inspired by the real-life relationship between award-winning producers Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil.
