Social Wit List: June 2017

Of all the new programs that launched globally in June, TNT’s NBA Awards drummed up the most buzz on social media, according to The WIT.

With around 278,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter, the first edition of the awards ceremony honoring the NBA’s top performers of the year was the most-buzzed-about new show in social media last month. The #EcstaticFans were doling out #FierceOpinions about the #Emotional show, though some agreed that it #NeedsImprovement.

A Casa on Record TV in Brazil garnered approximately 46,000 tweets, securing it the number two spot. The local adaptation of the reality format Get the F**k Out of My House, in which no less than 100 candidates are confined for two months within the same house, had fans chatting about the #QuirkyContestants and #TrashyVibe that helped to make the show a #GuiltyPleasure.

The premiere of Tales on BET in the U.S. stirred up some 45,000 tweets. The anthology series of “song stories” is created and executive produced by iconic hip-hop producer Irv Gotti. Viewers took to social media to discuss the #GreatPlotReversal in the #ThoughtProvoking show that some thought #ShouldBeonNetworkTV.

From GMA Network in the Philippines, I Heart Davao premiered to around 36,000 social-media comments. The romantic telenovela tells the story of Hope, a heart transplant recipient whose world will be turned upside down when she goes to Davao to save her family’s chocolate business. Viewers tweeting about the show said it was #Exciting #Funny and #Cinematic.

Kalp Atışı launched on Show TV in Turkey to some 26,000 tweets. The local adaptation of the South Korean romantic drama Doctors is about the relationship between a young doctor and her mentor who, after parting years ago, are reunited in the same hospital. The #ExcitedCrowd included #ManyFansoftheOriginal who were tweeting about the #UnbelievablePlot.

ABS-CBN in the Philippines debuted La Luna Sangre, the third installment of the fantasy telenovela Lobo, which revolves around Malia, half-vampire from her dad and half-werewolf from her mother. Around 25,000 tweets were sent about the premiere, with much #Excitement about the #NewLeadCouple and #Addictive viewing.

Sarabanda on Italia 1 in Italy saw some 25,000 tweets as well. The new local adaptation of the classic musical game-show format Name That Tune sees eight contestants go head-to-head in each episode to test their knowledge of songs. Many commenting about the show on social media thought #AThirdRevivalisTooMuch given its #SameOldVibe but others felt it was a #GreatFormat with much #Applause as well as #BuzzAroundUomoGattoContestant.

The debut of Boy Band on ABC in the U.S. also garnered around 25,000 comments. The music competition series sees talented singers battle it out to become a member of the next great music sensation. Some of the comments about the #90sThrowback were that it’s #NotDistinctiveEnough and had #BadSoundQuality.

The noir dramedy Claws, set in a nail salon in Florida and focusing on the five mysterious and dangerous women who work there, saw some 22,000 tweets. The show, which debuted on TNT in the U.S., had viewers chatting about the #FunPremise and #GreatEnsembleCast, while some thought there were #TooManySexScenes.

Coming in at number ten with 21,000 tweets, La Hermandad debuted on Chilevision in Chile. The paranormal entertainment show features presenter Julio César Rodríguez, along with four experts in paranormal activity, investigating mysterious and terrifying phenomena based on videos collected around the world. The buzz was that the show was #Fascinating and #Thrilling but the #HostNotSuitedforaScaryShow.
