Social Wit List: December 2018

Netflix dominates the December edition of the Social Wit List, the ranking of the most buzz-generating new premieres around the world as compiled by The WIT, led by the Sandra Bullock horror film Bird Box.

The post-apocalyptic film, based on the novel of the same name, generated some 32,000 mentions on Facebook and Twitter, with viewers enthralled by the #StarStuddedCast, #AmazingPerformanceBySandraBullock and #GrippingTension.

Second place on the ranking of the top ten premieres in social media is Freeform’s TV movie Live-Size 2, which had audiences #FeelingNostalgic and thinking #TyraBanksIsHilarious, while also complaining that #LindsayLohanShouldBeInIt.

Netflix takes third with some 23,000 mentions for Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable, which had viewers #LaughingHard for the comedian’s #BeautifulAndHeartfelt #GreatPerformance.

Next up is the streamer’s award-winning Alfonso Cuarón feature film Roma, which subscribers dubbed as a #Masterpiece.

Netflix can also take some credit for fifth place Memories of the Alhambra, from Korea’s tvN, which streamed on the service internationally. The 13,000 or so social media mentions indicates that audiences had a #CrushOnTheCast, were thankful to #NetflixForAiringItToo and were in #NeedOfMoreEpisodes.

TF1’s one-off entertainment music show La chanson secrète
generated a similar amount of social media traction, with commentators pleased with the #OriginalConcept and #GreatCoverVersions, but were #NotSureIfAllTheEmotionsAreReal.

Netflix is again on the list with the Spanish-language thriller Diablero, deemed as #BingeWatchMaterial and #FunWatch, with #KudosToActorChristopherVonUckermann.

Rounding out the top ten are TV Globo’s year-end recap A Gente Riu Assim—dubbed as the #BestEndOfTheYearReviewEver and #AlmostAPoliticalStatement—and the Hallmark Channel TV movie Mingle All the Way.
