Social Wit List: April 2018

Of all the new programs that premiered around the world in April, NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert generated the most buzz on Twitter and Facebook, according to The WIT.

The live staging of the iconic Broadway rock opera, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, is based on the final week of Jesus’s life. Around 185,000 tweets went out during the broadcast, as viewers who either #LoveItOrHateIt took to social media to express their feelings. Some were #NotImpressedWithThePerformances and thought there were #TooManyAdBreaks, and others gave kudos to the #AmazingCast and thought it was the #BestLiveShowEverOnTV.

Jersey Shore Family Vacation, which debuted on MTV in the U.S., saw some 103,000 tweets. The new spin-off of Jersey Shore, which ran for six seasons on MTV, features some of the original housemates who reunite in Miami for the vacation of a lifetime. The reunion had viewers #ExcitedForJerzday but also #MissingSammiOnTheShow and feeling nostalgic that #TheIconicDuckPhoneIsBack. Some even said it was the #HighlightOfMyDay.

Telecinco in Spain premiered Factor X to around 62,000 social media comments. The new local adaptation of The X Factor, which was previously adapted in 2007 on Cuatro, had viewers buzzing with #KudosToHostJesusVazquez and that they #LoveJudgesRistoAndLaura, noting the #FocusOnTheMusicNotTheDrama.

The Cure debuted on GMA Network in the Philippines and generated some 46,000 tweets. The thriller telenovela follows Greg, who gets his hands on an experimental drug to help his mother, but his life takes a turn when the drug becomes the root of an infection that threatens to spread all over the city. The #WalkingDeadFeelings were #Exciting for viewers, who were also tweeting that it was #NotYourAverageLoveStory.

Fox España in Spain launched Vis a Vis. The comedy-drama series that was canceled by Antena 3 in 2016 is back for a third season on a new network, chronicling the experiences of incarcerated women. Approximately 26,000 tweets went out giving a #WarmWelcome to the show’s #AmazingReturn and #IntensePlot, with much #KudosToEarlierTimeSlotAndShorterChapters.

Around 22,000 Facebook and Twitter comments surrounded the debut of Since I Found You on ABS-CBN in the Philippines. The melodramatic telenovela follows Dani, a young woman determined to make her father proud, and Nathan, the cold-hearted owner of a construction company. Viewers tweeting about the show (some of which #CameToWatchTeenStarVivoree) were #Hooked and got #GooseBumps from the #GreatCast.

Luis Miguel, la serie debuted on Telemundo in the U.S., garnering some 22,000 tweets alongside its premiere. The biographical series, co-produced with Netflix, charts the life of singing legend Luis Miguel, also known as El Sol de México. There was #ApplauseForActorDiegoBoneta and the #AmazingProductionValues in the #EmotionPackedSeries.

Burger Quiz on TMC in France saw some 21,000 tweets. It is a new version of the comedy game show that first aired on Canal+ from 2001 to 2002 in which two teams (each made up of two celebrities and one ordinary contestant) must answer pop culture questions. The #FunRevival took viewers on a #TripDownMemoryLane with #BrilliantGuests and much love for the returning host: #GreatToHaveHostAlainChabatBack.

Anitta Entrou No Grupo‘s debut on Multishow in Brazil also generated around 21,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter. The musical entertainment show sees, in every episode, singer Anitta receive two guests from the entertainment world for musical games and challenges. Those tweeting alongside the #FunToWatch show were #GluedToTheScreen with the #FunnyImprovisations, the #SingAlong and to watch as #AnittaNailsIt.

Coming in at number ten, Elton John: I’m Still Standing—A Grammy Salute aired on CBS in the U.S. and had around 19,000 social media comments. The star-studded tribute concert was recorded at Madison Square Garden on January 30 celebrating the legendary career of five-time Grammy winner Elton John. There was much online buzz about the #FantasticPerformances and #BeautifulVersions of the artist’s hits, proving there are #SoManyWaysToSingEltonJohn.
