MIPCOM Spotlight: Global Agency

The struggles between Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary play out in Queens, one of Global Agency’s drama highlights.

The series was produced in English with a “very high budget,” says Senay Filiztekin, the head of drama acquisitions.

The company is also presenting Heartbeat, a medical drama set in a fictional private hospital in Istanbul. The protagonist is a strong female character. “We can say it’s 50 percent drama, 50 percent medical concept,” says Filiztekin. “It became a phenomenal drama with its ratings success in summer 2017.” The show looks at how the doctors balance their personal lives with the hectic work in the hospital.

In addition, Global Agency has high hopes for Black Pearl in the international market. “We have been waiting for the next big melodrama project and here it comes with Black Pearl,” Filiztekin says. “With Black Pearl, we see a very strong but also impossible love story with conflicts.”

In the game show In and Out, a format highlight from Global Agency, a contestant is given 14 selections hidden in boxes, and they start the game with $10,000 in cash in their bank. Inside each of the boxes are money prizes, boosters and dividers, and one bankruptcy card. “There is no quitting, and if they get to the end without choosing the bankruptcy card, they will win the amount they finish the game with,” explains Umay Ayaz, the head of acquisitions at Global Agency. “It is the easiest and most fun game to earn money. This is why it is so easy to adapt in each territory.”

Also a game show format, Beat the Wheel sees contestants try to outsmart a giant hybrid digital/physical wheel and raise its maximum value up to $1 million. Cash or Splash watches as contestants are at risk of being dropped into a water trap while trying to win money.
