La Casa de los Famosos Colombia Leads February Wit List


La Casa de los Famosos Colombia, a local adaptation of the celebrity version of Big Brother, generated the most buzz on Instagram out of all the new series that debuted in February, according to The WIT.

Hosted by Cristina Hurtado and Carla Giraldo, the series sees 22 celebrities live together under constant camera surveillance, completely isolated from the outside world. After debuting on Canal RCN in Colombia and on ViX in the U.S., it garnered 433,000 followers on Instagram, aided by Hurtado’s own following of 6.8 million and Giraldo’s of 1.9 million.

The Mexican telenovela El amor no tiene receta (Love Has No Prescription) earned 370,000 followers to take second place. The Las Estrellas drama centers on two completely different families. One lives in opulence without a maternal figure, while the other lives with scant resources and has a dream of finding the youngest member. Its star-studded cast includes Altair Jarabo (4.4 million followers), Daniel Elbittar (2.2 million) and Claudia Martín (2.1 million).

Bahar (Spring), which debuted on Turkey’s Show TV on February 13, racked up 349,000 followers. The medical comedy series, adapted from the South Korean format Doctor Cha, tells the story of a woman who returns to her medical career after being a housewife for 20 years. Buğra Gülsoy (3.1 million followers), Demet Evgar (1.7 million) and Mehmet Yılmaz Ak (328,000) star.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, a live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, follows the adventures of Aang and his friends as they try to save the world and defeat the Fire Nation. With a cast that includes Kiawentiio (509,000 followers), Dallas Liu (450,000), Gordon Cormier (416,000) and Ian Ousley (255,000), the show’s Instagram picked up 346,000 followers after its debut in late February.

In fifth place, CBS’s Elsbeth amounted a following of 100,000. The spin-off of the legal drama The Good Wife follows Elsbeth Tascioni, an astute but unconventional attorney who makes unique observations to corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD. Carrie Preston, who has 145,000 followers of her own, stars in the lead role. The cast also includes Wendell Pierce, who has 61,000.

The Israeli adaptation of Peking Express, also titled Peking Express, premiered on Channel 13 (Reshet) on February 11 and amassed 96,000 followers. With Oz Zehavi, who 114,000 followers, as host, it sees nine pairs of contestants travel more than 5,000 kilometers across several countries with a budget of only one dollar per day.

TRT1’s Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı (Mehmed: Sultan of Conquests) came in seventh, with 42,000 followers. The Turkish series tells the story of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, who is famous for having led the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, ending the Byzantine Empire and opening the path to Ottoman expansion. Its popularity on Instagram is boosted by the star power of its cast, which features Serkan Çayoğlu (4.6 million followers), Seçkin Özdemir (2.4 million), Tuba Ünsal (707,000) and Selim Bayraktar (484,000).

Desiguales (Unequals), a talk show that premiered on Univision on February 19, amounted 30,000 followers. Hosts Adamari López, Amara La Negra, Dr. Nancy Álvarez, Migbelis Castellanos and Karina Banda, who all have contrasting profiles and life stories, tackle the hottest topics of the moment. They each have significant followings of their own: López has 9 million, La Negra counts 2.6 million, Álvarez and Castellanos each have 1.6 million, and Banda has 621,000.

The Turkish drama Senden Önce (Betrayals), a local adaptation of the Lebanese scripted format Till Death, garnered 22,000 followers to take ninth place on the list. It tells the story of two women who grew up in an orphanage and are later reunited by fate when one of them marries a man who has an affair with the other. The Kanal D series’ cast includes Alp Navruz (5.5 million followers), Sinem Ünsal (2.1 million) and Nilperi Şahinkaya (1.2 million).

Rounding out the February Wit List with 21,000 followers is Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Prime Video’s TV adaptation of the film of the same name. The series, which stars Donald Glover (4.6 million followers) and Maya Erskine (310,000), follows two strangers who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners in espionage and in marriage.
