Comedian Hari Kondabolu, known for his documentary The Problem with Apu, is set to host the International Emmy Awards, with the gala taking place on November 19 in New York.

Kondabolu’s TV credits include writer and correspondent for Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell; performing on The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and Jimmy Kimmel Live; and a half-hour special on Comedy Central. His Netflix special, Warn Your Relatives, was released early this year.

“Kondabolu is an outspoken comic who has that magical quality of making very serious topics extremely funny,” said Bruce Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We look forward to having him headlining our awards on November 19.”

Kondabolu added, “It’s an absolute honor to host the International Emmy Awards. When I told my mother, she had a huge smile on her face. It’s like I told her I was quitting comedy and going to law school.”
