SÃO PAULO: An updated version of Gabriela, a popular Brazilian telenovela, is to be internationally distributed this year by Globo and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITV).

The series will be represented by Globo in Latin America, Africa and Europe, and by WBITV in Asia, North America, Australia and the U.K. The format rights have been sold by WBITV to Globo.

Led by Julian Paes (India: A Love Story), Gabriela, which aired on Globo TV in Brazil last year, revolves around the life of a young female immigrant. The 55×45-minute new version of the show is penned by Walcyr Carraso. It will star Antonio Fagundes (Irrational Heart) and Marcelo Serrado (Looks & Essence). The original show, inspired by Jorge Amado’s book titled Gabriela, Cravo e Canela, was a hit during the 1970s.
