Veronica Mars Tops July’s Social Wit List

In July, Hulu’s Veronica Mars was the top show of all the new programs generating buzz on Instagram globally, according to The WIT.

Veronica Mars, a follow-up to the detective series that aired on UPN and The CW, attracted 248,000 Instagram followers as of August 5. Star Kristen Bell counts over 11 million followers on Instagram, far above co-star Jason Dohring’s 179,000 followers.

Nagi no Oitoma, a comedy-drama series based on the manga of the same name, debuted on TBS in Japan and scored some 202,000 followers on IG. Driving the buzz, actress Yoshida Yo has 604,000 followers on Instagram.

CBS’s Love Island remake garnered around 131,000 followers. Individual contestants on the show have a lot of followers: Kyra Green counts 181,000, Winston Hines has 156,000, Christen McAllister 70,400 and Yamen Sanders 64,800.

The police comedy drama Lupin no Musume, which debuted on Fuji TV in Japan, scored approximately 57,000 followers as of August 5. Star Kyoko Fukada has 2.9 million followers.

Coming in at number five on the top ten most-followed new shows on Instagram last month, The Boys on Amazon Prime Video had around 47,000 IG followers. Star Chace Crawford (of Gossip Girl fame) has 1.8 million followers, while co-stars Karl Urban and Erin Moriarty have 353,000 and 129,000 followers, respectively.

USA Network’s Suits spin-off Pearson notched up some 32,000 followers. Lead actress Gina Torres has 230,000 followers.

Canal 13 in Chile debuted the dramedy Amor a la Catalán, which landed around 29,000 followers on Instagram. The show stars Matías Assler (430,000 followers) and Daniela Ramirez (276,000 followers).

Voice 110 Emergency Control Room, NTV Japan’s local adaptation of the Korean crime-drama format Voice, had around 27,000 followers. Actress Yoko Maki, featured in the show, has 563,000 followers.

Comedy Central’s new late-night comedy show Lights Out with David Spade launched with around 26,000 Instagram followers. Host David Spade has 1.8 million followers, and the series incorporates field segments that mirror his popular Instagram stories.

TBS in Japan also debuted last month No Side Game, based on the novel by Jun Ikeido. The show has attracted some 21,000 IG followers. It stars Gordon Maeda (39,200 followers), Rena Sasamoto (25,800 followers) and Jingi Irie (9,000 followers).
