Between 2022 and 2027, streaming video providers in the U.S. will lose some $113 billion in revenues as a result of piracy, according to new Parks Associates data.

The Streaming Piracy Market & Ecosystem Strategies report cites Digital Citizens Alliance data when it notes that about 3,500 online sources offer pirate subscription IPTV services to the U.S. market.

Parks estimates that the value of fraudulent advertising delivered online to U.S. consumers may exceed $700 million in 2027.

“The number of households who share account credentials and consume pirated content is rising,” said Sarah Lee, research analyst at Parks Associates, and contributor to the report. “People are increasingly looking for new ways to satisfy entertainment needs. Participation in sharing account credentials increased 48 percent since 2019.”
