Alex Gibney’s Rolling Stone Docuseries Set for HBO, Sky Arts

Nevision and Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions are co-producing the documentary series Rolling Stone: Stories from the Edge for HBO in the U.S. and Sky Arts in the U.K., with Kew Media Group on board as international distributor.

Kew Media Group will launch the title, which is currently in production, to the international market at MIPCOM as a 6×42-minute series. It is set to air on HBO in early November and on Sky Arts on November 10, marking Rolling Stone’s 50th anniversary. It will feature audio interviews with world-renowned musicians, along with previously unheard recordings from journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson.

Rolling Stone: Stories from the Edge will showcase the rise of the magazine and its impact on society. The docuseries will chronicle some of the top journalistic stories, storytellers and music makers of the last 50 years. Jigsaw’s Gibney and Blair Foster will direct and also serve as executive producers along with Wenner Media’s Jann Wenner, co-founder and publisher of Rolling Stone, and Nevision’s James Cabourne. Jigsaw’s Richard Perello and Stacey Offman will co-executive produce.

Phil Edgar-Jones, the channel director of Sky Arts, said, “The impact on popular culture and journalism of Rolling Stone magazine is immense. Sky Arts is proud to have this superb Alex Gibney series as a centerpiece of the November schedules.”

Greg Phillips, the president of distribution at Kew Media Group, commented, “What started as a barometer for the arts and cultural community, and a mouthpiece for political viewpoints, has grown into one of the most significant and recognizable international brands of our time. Rolling Stone’s deeply instilled fusion of creativity and exclusive insight into the world of music transcends borders and we are proud to be distributing Alex’s latest addition to the Jigsaw stable.”

Cabourne, the executive chairman of Nevision, added, “Rolling Stone magazine is an icon and has played a significant role in the lives of many generations of young people around the world. We are genuinely thrilled to be working alongside talent such as Alex Gibney to bring unheard interviews of music’s finest and most influential figures to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. This is a fitting celebration of the magazine’s 50th anniversary and we are confident it will resonate globally.”
