MIAMI: Cisneros Media Distribution heads to MIPCOM with Leyendas, a package of classic telenovelas that includes Mundo de Fieras (1991), starring Rosalinda Serfaty and Jean Carlo Simancas.

Other titles in the package are Las Amazonas (1985), led by Eduardo Serrano, Hilda Carrero and Miriam Ochoa; Alba Marina (1988), with Karina and Xavier Serbia; and La Revancha (1989), starring Victor Cardenas and Rosalinda Serfaty. There is also Pasionaria (1990), with Fernando Carrillo, Catherine Fulop, Henry Galue and Yolanda Méndez; Ka Ina (1995), led by Jean Carlo Simancas, Viviana Gibelli and Hilda Abrahamz; and El Pais de las Mujeres (1998), starring Victor Cámara, Ana Karina Manco, Aroldo Betancourt, Miguel Angel Landa and Gustavo Rodriguez.

Marcello Coltro, Cisneros Media’s executive VP of content distribution, commented: “These renowned classic telenovelas included in the Leyendas package became part of so many Latin Americans’ lives, at the time. Some aired for almost a year, entering viewers’ homes day after day as the protagonists were transformed into members of their family, the antagonists their enemies, the traumas their everyday struggles, and the beautiful stories of true love and perseverance their fantasies and dreams. What’s more, each of these great productions made an important contribution to the growth and scope of the Latin soap opera in the television industry around the world.”

Helen Jurado, the VP of sales at Cisneros Media Distribution, added: “Leyendas is a package of lovely classic telenovelas that impacted a generation of Latinos when they were originally aired years ago, and today they provide a world of nostalgia for those same audiences, as well as for a new generation of viewers. But most importantly, they represent an ideal and cost effective product for our clientele, providing them with proven programming and greater return on their investment, especially considering the number of episodes contained in these productions. The catalogue has already been well received by our customers, and we haven’t even presented it [yet] at MIPCOM.”

Another MIPCOM highlight for the company is Urban Legends. “This series is based on urban myths, which can be a great source of entertainment for young audiences tired of teen vampires struggling to abstain from draining their mortal boyfriends’ veins,” said Coltro.

Cisneros Media Distribution is also presenting the new telenovela Separated by Love, which features an international cast and is being launched with the digital space in mind. The novela was produced with a “robust structure, shorter scenes and fewer plots” in order to accommodate all digital platforms, according to Coltro.

In addition, the company is showcasing SHÄK, a co-production with RMG News featuring high-speed races, police shootouts and other high-octane clips. Coltro noted: “Cisneros Media Distribution’s core business has evolved, as we are now focused on…establishing co-productions with our clients around the world.”
