JOHANNESBURG: British chef and TV personality Matt Tebbutt (Food Unwrapped) will serve as host of A Taste of South Africa, a new food series being produced by South Africa’s Oxyg3n Media.

A Taste of South Africa will follow Tebbutt as he explores some of the country’s local cuisines. The ten-part show is scheduled to begin production in January. It is slated for broadcast on a to-be-announced DStv channel during the second half of 2017.

Producer Rebecca Fuller-Campbell remarked: “South Africa provides an ideal, exciting, engaging and exquisite environment in which to pursue the love of food. The sheer variety of cultures means that every episode will be a fresh and different look into the rich gastronomic traditions of the country.

“Matt is so comfortable in front of the camera and so naturally curious and engaging that he is the perfect host and South Africa is the perfect place to really combine the concept of food and travel.”

Tebbutt added: “This is the show that I’ve always wanted to make. To explore, learn, taste and understand such a totally diverse country such as South Africa is a really exciting prospect. I want to meet the people behind the food, to learn about their rich history and culture, to drink, laugh and embrace life like they do.”
