SÃO PAULO/NEW YORK: SPI International has been granted approval from Brazil's regulatory body Ancine to make nine FilmBox brand channels available in the country's pay-TV market.

The company is launching FightBox HD, Fast&FunBox, DocuBox HD, FilmBox Arthouse, FashionBox, Madscreenbox, 360TuneBox, Erox and Eroxxx in Brazil. The FilmBox brand first arrived in the country through SPI's FilmBox Live app, which offers a variety of movies and sports, fashion and documentary content, as well as live-streaming television channels.

"The approval from Ancine is pivotal to the launch of our channels in Brazil. We may now finalize our talks with several pay-TV networks which expressed interest in incorporating our channel portfolio into their linear TV offer," stated Thivá Fróes de Souza, SPI's director for Brazil.

"With 30 percent of homes in Brazil having pay-TV and 40 percent of the country paying for cable, Brazil is an extremely attractive market for SPI to explore. Since 2011 the New York-based international media company has developed a bouquet of thematic channels which are now carried by numerous platforms and operators in Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and the Middle East. As the content on each channel has been cleared for worldwide broadcast, Brazil is definitely the next stop on SPI's 'international expansion tour.'"
