SÃO PAULO: Brazilian broadcaster RedeTV! has signed a long-term deal with combat-sport promoters XFC International to launch a new mixed martial arts championship featuring athletes from across Latin America.

The tournament, which will be called the Mixed Martial Arts Copa, will take place next year in São Paulo. It will feature events in the men and women’s divisions, with a first season spanning from February to May, and a second season from August to December.

The companies will also work together to set up other events throughout Brazil before expanding to the rest of Latin America in 2015.

“We have no doubt that the MMA Copa will showcase the next generation of undiscovered talent to the world. XFC International will enable these fighters to participate in world-class events, not only in Latin America, but also in the U.S. and other regions throughout the world,” said Edward Jung, the CEO of XFC International. “This is an exciting time for MMA athletes and fans around the world as we write a new chapter in MMA history and bring new energy to the sport.”
