MIAMI: HBO is expanding its slate of original productions in Latin America and Brazil, announcing that it will double the number of series locally launched in the region.

The strategy follows HBO’s commitment, made earlier this year, to increase by 50 percent the overall hours of original local content produced worldwide in 2016. Among its upcoming Latin American productions are the Argentine thriller Jardín de bronce and the Brazilian drama A vida secreta dos casais.

In Mexico, HBO will present a new season of Sr. Ávila, as well as the political comedy format Chumel con Chumel Torres.

“At HBO, we seek unique and original stories that no one else is telling,” said Roberto Ríos, the VP of original productions at HBO Latin America. “New formats, fresh ideas and bold plots are what attract audiences. For us, it’s important to create an emotional bond, and that is achieved with passionate stories and different storytelling styles.”
