SÃO PAULO: Globo in Brazil is slated to launch its own VOD service, Globo Play, next week.

The new on-demand platform is due out November 3. It will feature live content, catch-up programming and a library of Globo’s classic titles, available across devices such as smartphones, tablets and desktop computers. Plans are also underway for smart TV access.

Besides its 80-plus archive programs, Globo will also release 4K content such as the drama Merciless and the miniseries Dangerous Liaisons. Initially, Globo Play will feature ads and space for special projects focused on branded content.

“We are amplifying our linear programming reach to new devices and viewing occasions, enriching the audience’s experience with our content,” said Carlos Henrique Schroder, Globo’s CEO. “With routine changes and new consumption habits, it is a natural course to strengthen our presence across platforms. We will continue to work to offer the best content, in the best and most convenient way to our audience.”

“We will offer a premium experience to users, with improved usability, content availability after the program is aired, and an unbeatable archive of major TV successes,” remarked Erick Brêtas, Globo’s director of digital media. “Not to mention the live transmission of our programming, which includes content ranging from drama, variety shows and films to our news and sports shows. This is Globo’s programming available anywhere and anytime the public wants.”

Added Raymundo Barros, Globo’s director of technology: “We are constantly investing in technology, which makes us pioneers in the development of solutions to our business and guarantees the high quality of our productions and distributions. The app development by Globo’s staff, in partnership with Globo.com, is an example of our bet.”

"The video market still has great potential for growth in Brazil," commented Eduardo Becker, Globo’s director of digital media sales. "And the commercial options are just beginning."
