NEW YORK: FOX International Channels (FIC) has purchased Paramount Pictures' share of LAPTV, giving it 100-percent ownership of the company.

Paramount has also extended its long-term output agreement with FIC. The deal gives FIC access to new Paramount features in Latin America, excluding Brazil. LAPTV operates Moviecity and other leading premium channel brands. It also has long-term content arrangements with MGM, Universal Studios and Twentieth Century Fox.

“I’m very excited to announce that FOX International Channels will now own 100 percent of LAPTV, I am sure that we will leverage and increase the value of our product proposition to our affiliates, distributors and advertisers,” said Carlos Martinez, the president of FIC Latin America, who recently named Edgar Spielmann as executive VP and COO of FOX International Channels Latin America. â€¨

“Spielmann has been the head of LAPTV since 2009. He is a strong asset for our organization and a key piece in our management team. Premium channels and nonlinear businesses are a priority for our company all over the world, and what LAPTV has built in Latin America is a powerful blueprint globally. The expertise of Edgar and the LAPTV team will be a great competitive advantage for FIC,” added Martínez.
