MIPTV Spotlight: Televisa Internacional

CANNES: Game shows represent a large part of Televisa Internacional’s expanding formats catalogue, with titles such as The Assembly Game, Generation Gap and The Wacky Old Games.

In Cannes, the company is debuting Trivia Crack, a quiz show based on a popular app, and the dating format Date My Avatar. The latter is a format with a twist: contestants must use an earphone to guide a person, often the physical opposite of them, through a date. Also on the slate is the teen talent show Mini Me.

“We’re always looking to be on the cutting edge of where the market is going by offering formats with unique, original and flexible twists in terms of content and programming,” says Ricardo Ehrsam, the general director of entertainment formats for Televisa Internacional. “We take chances on big, new ideas and turn them into reality.”

CANNES: Stand Up for Your Country, Televisa Internacional’s latest format, is an entertainment series in which duos made up of parents and kids perform in front of a studio audience with one goal in mind: get the audience to deliver a standing ovation so they can move to the next round.

“There is something emotional about watching a mother sing with her son or a father sing with his daughter, and that is the most important thing that this show captures,” says Ricardo Ehrsam, the general director of Televisa entertainment formats. According to Ehrsam, the format has been optioned in 20 countries, with a version already airing in Spain.

As for telenovelas, the company is showcasing Shadows of the Past and Ask God for Forgiveness… Not Me.
