Battlestar Galactica to Air in Spanish on NBC Universo

MIAMI: The cult hit Battlestar Galactica, which remains one of the highest rated series ever on Syfy, is to air on NBC Universo in Spanish for the first time on U.S. television.

From Universal Cable Productions, the sci-fi series launches on NBC Universo on July 29 at 9 p.m. It will hold a regular Wednesday night slot from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the channel. Battlestar Galactica joins Law & Order: LA and Suits as recent acquisitions for the NBC Universo schedule.

Battlestar Galactica defined a special era for me as an actor and I am very proud to have been part of such an iconic franchise—it’s thrilling to know that this work carries on and will now be enjoyed by legions of new Spanish-speaking fans,” said Edward James Olmos, who stars in the series. “The show also delved into issues of mixed races and gender equality which I think new fans will find to be quite relevant today.”

"Sci-fi is an extremely popular genre among Hispanics and NBC Universo is thrilled to build on its sci-fi offerings which currently include Warehouse 13 and Eureka,” said Bilai Joa Silar, the senior VP of programming and production at NBC Universo. “We are looking forward to introducing Battlestar Galactica to Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. and creating a new ‘Colony’ of Galacticans.”
