Globo Partners with the AP, Renews Deals with CCTV

SÃO PAULO: Brazilian media company Globo wrapped up deals that will see it increase its international reach, including agreements with the Associated Press Global Media Services and China’s CCTV.

A four-year collaboration between AP GMS and NewSource Globo, the company’s news division, is aimed at providing international broadcasters with media services and facilities during major Brazilian events, such as this summer’s World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. The partnership will include breaking news coverage, international HD transmissions, live stand-up positions and the use of Globo’s studio facilities.

“With the eyes of the world on Brazil for the next four years, it is critical that we can offer international broadcasters the most comprehensive coverage opportunities,” said Roberto Marinho Neto, the head of sports projects at Globo. “The opportunity in the country is continuing to grow and by working with AP GMS we can ensure that Brazil is better connected with the rest of the world than ever before.”

Susan Henderson, the head of broadcast services for North America at AP GMS, commented: “Brazil is already a key region for news and events and this is only going to increase in the future. We are delighted to work with NewSource Globo and are confident that together we can provide international broadcasters everything they need to cover both breaking news and the major events in Brazil over the next four years.”

Globo has also renewed its partnership with Chinese channel CCTV, extending the transmission rights for soccer games from the Brazilian League and the São Paulo State League for three more years. Additionally, CCTV will continue to broadcast the sports programs FootBrazil Magazine and FootBrazil Highlights until 2016.
