SPT, Televisa Unveil First Co-Pro Under New Pact

MIAMI/MEXICO CITY: Señorita Pólvora, a series inspired by the true story of a beauty queen with ties to an assassin, will be the first co-production to come out of the five-year deal announced this week between Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and Televisa.

The show will be made in Mexico by SPT and broadcast across multiple Televisa platforms. In the U.S., the series starring Camila Sodi, Iván Sánchez and José María de Tavira will air on Univision-owned UniMás. Televisa is handling sales across Latin America, while SPT will rep the show across Eastern and Southern Europe. In other markets, SPT and Televisa will jointly distribute the series.

“As a pioneer of the teleseries genre, we’ve made our mark by producing world-class series like Señorita Pólvora, high-quality productions with fast-paced storytelling that places relatable characters into extraordinary situations," noted Angelica Guerra, the senior VP and managing director of production for Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic at SPT. "This is the perfect series to commence our co-production deal with Televisa and we are working closely with them to bring this edgy new series to life."

Antonio Alonso, director general of planning and international at Televisa Productions, said, "With this production pipeline, we are bringing new stories and content with different perspectives to the marketplace. We are confident that these original series will captivate our audience from the very beginning."

“SPT and Televisa have pulled together a stellar cast, writers and producers to bring this story to life," added Alberto Ciurana, the president of programming and content at Univision Communications. "Our ability to deliver programs such as Señorita Pólvora explains why UniMás continues to expand its popularity with audiences in the U.S."
