PBS KIDS, Netflix Slate Reimagined Sesame Street Season

The newly reimagined Sesame Street is slated to debut on November 10 on Netflix and PBS KIDS, with episodes that feature celebrity guests such as Miley Cyrus and take viewers into the brownstone for the first time.

“Season 56 reimagines Sesame Street, inviting children into the action and bringing them hand-in-hand through high-stakes stories, powerful learning moments and laugh-out-loud surprises,” said Sal Perez, executive producer. “And, as always, Sesame Street’s curriculum is designed to meet children’s most pressing needs—so our focus this season is on kindness and compassion, something we can all use more of today.”

Each episode of the new season features interactive 11-minute stories that place viewers in the center of the action. The new 5-minute animated segment Tales from 123 takes viewers inside the famous brownstone for the first time. In addition to the adventure narrative and Tales from 123, each episode will feature the return of the segments Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Food Truck.

Miley Cyrus is among the celebrity guests for the season, as is NASCAR champion Bubba Wallace. As Sesame Street characters explore compassion, kindness and social problem-solving, celebrity guests will carry on the fun in exclusive digital content throughout the season.

The curriculum of the new season is an extension of season 55’s focus on emotional well-being, with an emphasis on helping children develop a compassionate mindset.

“With skills like perspective-taking, listening and cooperation, children will see how even tough moments can be turned into opportunities for caring, connection and fun,” said Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, Sesame Workshop’s senior VP of global education. “We hear time and again from parents who want to give their children the emotional well-being and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in life. This season’s curriculum is designed to meet the moment for families, all in the joyful way only Sesame can.”

This season’s launch will reach more children in more places than ever before in its 56-year history. New episodes will be available in 30-plus languages globally on Netflix and released on the same day on PBS stations, the PBS KIDS channel and across PBS KIDS digital platforms in the U.S.

Sesame Street, from Sesame Workshop, is underwritten in part by Beaches Resort and Google. Select Tales from 123 segments were funded by MetLife Foundation as part of its global partnership with Sesame Workshop.
