Warner Bros. Discovery is planning to halt the future development of local original productions for HBO Max in the Nordics and Central Europe.

Priya Dogra, the president of EMEA and Asia (excluding China) at WarnerMedia, discussed the importance of local stories to HBO Max as it steps up its international expansion at Series Mania today.

HBO Max has expanded its footprint with a launch in 15 additional European countries, bringing its total reach to 61 territories globally.

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming platform is slated to launch in a further 15 European countries on March 8.

WarnerMedia International has appointed Clémentine Bobin as senior creative executive of HBO Max in France.

HBO Max has gone live in the Nordics and Spain, arriving in these territories with a special promotion offering new customers half price on the monthly subscription.

HBO Max is adding seven territories to the first phase of its European rollout, including the Netherlands and Turkey, bringing it to an initial batch of 27 markets in the region.

WarnerMedia has slated October 26 for the launch of HBO Max in Europe, with Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain and Andorra as the first six European countries for the rollout.

Speaking at Series Mania, Priya Dogra and Christina Sulebakk outlined HBO Max’s European rollout plans, with the platform due to arrive in the Nordic region and Spain this fall, followed by Central and Eastern Europe and Portugal in 2022.

HBO Max has greenlit Lust, a Swedish comedy series produced for the platform by Miso Film Sweden.
