MIA Market Adds Animation Strand

Italy’s MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo is set to host its eighth edition in 2022, featuring a new section entirely devoted to animated series, stand-alone specials and feature films.

MIA is scheduled to be held in Rome from October 11 to 15. It will feature an enriched co-production market and pitching forum with a brand-new animation strand to be added to the existing ones dedicated to drama series, documentaries (features, series and one-offs) and films.

Eligible projects for the animation pitching forum comprise animation series, animation stand-alone specials and animation feature films from any country and nationality, but they must be original projects of outstanding artistic value, aimed at international distribution and broadcast/release, with potential on linear broadcasting and/or on-demand digital streaming (animation series and animation stand-alone specials), theatrical release (animation feature films) and worldwide distribution.

“We are pleased to unveil our new co-production program, which is aimed at all Animation producers,” said Gaia Tridente, MIA’s director. “With it, we wish not only to strengthen the figure of animation professionals but also foster B2B exchanges, networking activities and most of all, nurture and promote talents in the European industry to facilitate the development of international co-productions. The animation division will host as well a dedicated program of conferences in which decision-makers will discuss the opportunities and challenges of producing and distributing animation contents in today’s international paradigm.”
