Entertainment One Bolsters Business in the Nordics

Entertainment One (eOne) has inked a host of deals in the Nordics for more than 800 hours of content, alongside plans for a new local production.

Carolina den Baas, director of sales at eOne, said: “We are committed to growing our relationships in this significant region with broader distribution deals across an expanded library of content as we solidify our presence in the Nordics. We’re proud to deliver eOne’s vast slate of international hits to audiences across the Nordics, especially as we make headway and continue to widen our focus within this territory.”

eOne’s agreements were made with key broadcasters such as TV2 and NRK in Norway; Tele2 and TV4 in Sweden; Síminn and Syn in Iceland; YLE in Finland; and DRTV in Denmark, as well as C More on a pan-regional basis. The range of programming includes Upright, Burden of Truth, Heartland, Nurses and more.

Other titles included in the deal are Moonshine, Family Law, Between Two Worlds and La Garconne, as well as factual specials such as The Battle for Hong Kong, Inside China and Outbreak: The Virus that Shook the World.

These deals come after eOne’s success in the region with The Rookie, which launched on Norway’s TV2 as the number one highest-rated U.S. scripted series premiere for over three years. On Sweden’s Tele2, The Rookie is number one in both total viewing and audience retention, and it ranked as Síminn’s highest-rated scripted show of 2020 in Iceland.

The studio is also increasing its presence beyond distribution with original IP. It is partnering with SAM Productions on the development of a new local series yet to be announced.

Spyro Markesinis, executive VP of Sales for EMEA and Asia at eOne, said: “We’re delighted to continue making significant progress in the Nordics, led by Carolina, further strengthening our position as a major player in the region. Our strategic progress within this territory also includes plans for investing in our first Swedish Scandi noir series.”
