New Commissioning Editor for BBC Comedy

I May Destroy You producer Tanya Qureshi has been appointed as commissioning editor for BBC Comedy.

Qureshi will be responsible for a slate of programs as well as developing her own roster of new shows. She started her career in commissioning at UKTV, primarily focused on scripted comedy across Dave and Gold. Most recently, she served as associate producer on Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You and produced season two of Dead Pixels. Qureshi is currently head of comedy at Various Artists.

Qureshi said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the BBC Comedy department at this exciting time. The opportunity to work across such a breadth of funny programming, with incredible talent, was impossible to resist.”

Shane Allen, director of BBC Comedy commissioning, added: “Tanya joins on a producing high from having nurtured and delivered one of the most seminal shows of recent years. Her immaculate taste, insight, connections, wisdom and passion for comedy are matched by a funny bones personality.”
