Lagardère Studios has acquired the Barcelona-based production outfit Veranda, which is behind series such as Merlí.

Veranda produces fiction, entertainment and documentary programs for television and digital platforms. Lagardère Studios, already a shareholder of the company, has acquired the shares held until now by Grupo Godo. Created in 2010, Veranda is headed by Aitor Montánchez and Ignasi Comillas.

Two adaptations of Merlí are currently being developed for France and Italy, as is a spin-off, Merlí: Sapere Aude, for Movistar+ in Spain. The company’s other productions include Persona InfiltradaOh Happy Day, Catalunya Directe, Gran Nord and the documentaries Tots som 1, 15 anys de radio, Fet a Catalunya, Les flors del mal and many more.

This acquisition in Catalonia allows Lagardère Studios to strengthen its presence in Spain, with a brand that complements the Boomerang TV group.

Christophe Thoral, CEO of Lagardère Studios, said: “We are delighted to consolidate our European presence with this new acquisition, which opens up additional opportunities for Boomerang TV that will complement the productions already underway in Spain.”
