Killing Eve, A Very English Scandal Lead BAFTA Television Nods

Killing Eve has earned 14 nominations for the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards, followed by A Very English Scandal with 12 nods.

Other shows with multiple nominations include Patrick Melrose with six, Bodyguard and The Little Drummer Girl with five each and four each for Mrs Wilson and MumBros: After the Screaming Stops, Bandersnatch (Black Mirror), The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, Sally4Ever, Save Me and Would I Lie To You? each scored three nominations.

In drama series, BBC One has three contenders: Bodyguard, Informer and Killing Eve, with Sky Atlantic’s Save Me rounding out the category. For miniseries, the nominees are BBC One’s  A Very English Scandal and Mrs Wilson, Channel 4’s Kiri and Sky Atlantic’s Patrick MelroseBandersnatch (Black Mirror), Care, Killed By My Debt and Through The Gates (On The Edge) are up for single drama. In the soaps and continuing drama category, the contenders are Casualty, Coronation Street, Eastenders and Hollyoaks.

Lead actor nods went to Benedict Cumberbatch for Patrick Melrose, Chance Perdomo for Killed By My Debt, Hugh Grant for A Very English Scandal and Lucian Msamati for Kiri. In the leading actress category, Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh earned nominations alongside Keeley Hawes for Bodyguard and Ruth Wilson for Mrs Wilson.

In the international category, nominations went to ARD Degeto’s 54 Hours: The Gladbeck Hostage Crisis on BBC Four, MGM and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale on Channel 4, Radical Media’s Reporting Trump’s First Year: The Fourth Estate on BBC Two and HBO’s Succession on Sky Atlantic.

Scripted comedy contenders are Derry Girls, Mum, Sally4ever and Stath Lets Flats.

For comedy entertainment, nominees are Channel 4’s The Big Narstie Show and The Last Leg, Sky One’s A League of Their Own and BBC One’s Would I Lie To You? In entertainment, nods went to two ITV shows—Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent—and two BBC series, Strictly Come Dancing and Michael Mcintyre’s Big Show.

The current affairs nominees are Al Jazeera English’s Football’s Wall of Silence, ITV’s Iran Unveiled: Taking on the Ayatollahs and Channel 4’s Massacre at Ballymurphy and Myanmar’s Killing Fields.  The factual series up for BAFTAs are 24 Hours In A&E, Life And Death Row: The Mass Execution, Louis Theroux’s Altered States and Prison. In the features category, the nominees are Gordon, Gino And Fred’s Road Trip, The Great British Bake Off, Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing and Who Do You Think You Are?  In reality and constructed factual, the shows up for awards are Dragons’ Den, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Old People’s Home For 4 Year Olds and The Real Full Monty: Ladies’ Night. The specialist factual category includes Bros: After The Screaming Stops, Grayson Perry: Rites of PassageSuffragettes With Lucy Worsley and Superkids: Breaking Away From Care.

The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall on May 12. The British Academy Television Craft Awards are on April 28.
