Royal Television Society Programme Awards Nominees Announced

The list of nominees for the 2019 Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards has been unveiled ahead of the ceremony that will take place later this month.

Announced this morning by British journalist Charlene White at h Club in London, the list includes nominations for Killing Eve (Sid Gentle Films for BBC One), Peaky Blinders (Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions for BBC Two) and Save Me (World Productions for Sky Atlantic) in the drama series category. Killing Eve stars Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh received acting nods, as did Save Me’s Lennie James and Alice Feetham, the latter of which is up for the breakthrough award.

A Very English Scandal (Blueprint Pictures for BBC One)—which also got a nod for Ben Whishaw in the actor (male) category—will compete against The Cry (Synchronicity Films for BBC One) and Butterfly (Red Production Company and Aenon for ITV) for best miniseries. Scripted comedies receiving nominations include Famalam (BBC Studios for BBC Three) Detectorists (Channel X North, Treasure Trove Productions, and Lola Entertainment for BBC Four) and Derry Girls (Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4).

Among the documentary series up for an RTS award are Love and Hate Crime (Top Hat Productions for BBC One), Drugsland (BBC Studios–Unscripted Productions and The Open University for BBC Three) and Prison (Spring Films for Channel 4). The Last Leg (Open Mike for Channel 4), Britain’s Got Talent (Syco / Thames for ITV) and Don’t Hate The Playaz (Monkey Kingdom for ITV2) are vying for the entertainment award.

Winners will be announced at the 2019 Royal Television Society Programme Award’s ceremony on Tuesday, March 19, hosted by Shappi Khorsandi at The Grosvenor Hotel.
