Jo Street, a seasoned developer, producer and commissioner, has been appointed as the BBC’s commissioning editor for entertainment and daytime, a newly created position that is effective August 1.

The combined role will span the development and commissioning for both teams. It was created to simplify the commissioning process and to develop stronger links between commissioning teams. Street is based in Glasgow and will be supported by an assistant commissioner.

Street has produced, directed, executive produced and commissioned series spanning all genres, including Countryfile and Weakest Link. Her current slate comprises such titles as Homes Under the Hammer, Antiques Road Trip, Eggheads, Money for Nothing, Wild UK, Impossible and Letterbox.

Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment commissioning, remarked: “Jo has a unique set of skills—not only within entertainment and daytime but in other genres too. As an experienced developer, producer and commissioner with a passion for programming, I know she will excel in the post and make it her own.”

Dan McGolpin, controller of programming and daytime, noted: “Jo is the perfect appointment for this exciting new role based in Glasgow. She will continue her wonderful work with the creative community in Scotland and around the U.K., now with a broader remit that will promote further collaboration between our entertainment and daytime commissioning teams.”

Street added: “It’s a great opportunity to build on the success I’ve had with daytime and expand and grow entertainment commissions in Scotland too. I work with some fantastic producers and I can’t wait to get stuck into the serious business of finding some brilliantly entertaining new shows.”
