The Crown Leads BAFTA TV Nominations

Netflix’s historical drama The Crown has received five nominations for the Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards.

Claire Foy is nominated in the lead actress in a drama category for The Crown, alongside Jodie Comer (Thirteen), Nikki Amuka-Bird (NW) and Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley). The lead actor nominees are Adeel Akhtar (Murdered By My Father), Babou Ceesay (Damilola, Our Loved Boy), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses) and Robbie Coltrane (National Treasure).

Supporting nods went to, in the actress arena, Nicola Walker (Last Tango in Halifax), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) and Wunmi Mosaku (Damilola, Our Loved Boy). In the actor arena, the supporting nominees are Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Jared Harris (The Crown), John Lithgow (The Crown) and Tom Hollander (The Night Manager).

The nominees for the female performance in a comedy category are Diane Morgan (Cunk on Shakespeare), Lesley Manville (Mum), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Olivia Colman (Fleabag). The male performance side for comedy features Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), David Mitchell (Upstart Crow), Harry Enfield (The Windsors) and Steve Coogan (The Scissored Isle).

Those nominated for their entertainment performance are Adam Hills (The Last Leg), Claudia Winkleman (Strictly Come Dancing), Graham Norton (The Graham Norton Show) and Michael McIntyre (Michael McIntyre’s Big Show).

The series nominated for best drama are The Crown, The Durrells, Happy Valley and War & Peace. Aberfan: The Green Hollow, Murdered By My Father, NW and Damilola, Our Loved Boy are nominated for best single drama. Miniseries contenders are The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses, National Treasure, The Secret and The Witness for the Prosecution. The nominations for soap and continuing drama went to Casualty, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

In the international category, the nominees are The Night Of, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, Stranger Things and Transparent.

Scripted comedy contenders are Camping, Fleabag, Flowers and People Just Do Nothing. The nominees for comedy and comedy entertainment program are Charlie Brooker’s 2016 Wipe, Cunk on Shakespeare, The Last Leg and Taskmaster.

Up for best factual series are 24 Hours in Police Custody, Exodus: Our Journey to Europe, Kids on the Edge and The Prosecutors: Real Crime and Punishment, while the specialist factual contenders are Alan Bennett’s Diaries, Attenborough’s Life That Glows, Grayson Perry’s All Man and Planet Earth II. In the category for reality and constructed factual are First Dates, Muslims Like Us, The Real Marigold Hotel and The Secret Life of Five Years Olds. Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway is nominated for best entertainment program, alongside Britain’s Got Talent, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and Strictly Come Dancing.

The nominations for the publicly voted Virgin TV’s Must See Moment are: Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards, The Late Late Show with James Corden: Carpool Karaoke with Michelle Obama, Line of Duty: Urgent Exit Required, Planet Earth II: Snakes vs Iguana Chase, Strictly Come Dancing: Ed Balls’ Gangnam Style and Who Do You Think You Are?: Danny Dyer’s Origins.
