VIENNA: The Austrian VOD service Flimmit has licensed hundreds of hours of new programming, inking deals with, among others, Studio Hamburg.

The Flimmit portfolio grew from around 2,500 to more than 5,500 films and series during the last year. Flimmit licensed new content from Telepool and RC Release Company, a subsidiary of WDR mediagroup. It also extended its cooperation with content owner Studio Hamburg, so that several SVOD titles are now also available on the platform in addition to all the other transactional VOD content.

Tilman Rautenstrauch, the head of online sales at Studio Hamburg, said: “We are glad to have found a reliable and forward-looking partner in Flimmit. Expanding our existing cooperation with a subscription VOD package featuring various content such as the popular Es war einmal… children’s series was therefore a logical step.”

Flimmit’s managing director, Ulrich Mueller-Uri, commented: “The cooperation with major regional, German and European distribution partners constitutes an enormous asset for us and creates the opportunity to permanently include qualitative content from Austria and abroad in our portfolio.”

He continued: “The participation of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation through its subsidiaries ORS comm and ORF-Enterprise was a milestone for Flimmit and the VOD market in Europe. It offers opportunities to enrich the audio-visual market and thus create a stronger awareness for the various products. Our common objective is to make these hugely popular films and series accessible to a wide audience in the long run. Moreover, we now have the possibility to explore and evaluate new distribution models.”
