MIPCOM Spotlight: Shine International

CANNES: Shine International is coming to MIPCOM with a slate of new formats that “are testament to our creativity and pursuit of extraordinary TV,” says Nadine Nohr, the company’s CEO, as well as a number of high-profile dramas, among them Gracepoint.

Included in Shine International’s offering is The Island with Bear Grylls, in which 13 British men are abandoned on a remote, uninhabited Pacific island to see if modern man can survive in the wild. Also making its debut is Shine America’s Restaurant Startup, which sees successful restaurateur Joe Bastianich and chef and restaurant operator Tim Love vie against each other to invest their own money in food concepts they believe will make them millions.

“We are also celebrating the overwhelming success of MasterChef, the global smash hit cooking competition packed full of drama,” says Nohr.

Additionally, there are big titles on the drama side, including Gracepoint, which is the U.S. adaptation of the British hit Broadchurch. There’s also Grantchester, which is adapted from the books The Grantchester Mysteries by author James Runcie. Set in 1953, the six-episode series “is incredibly lavish and has some wonderful characters at its heart,” says Nohr. “Rising star James Norton in the lead role of Sidney Chambers cuts a real dash as a charming, inquisitive, crime-solving clergyman, and with Robson Green making his return to prime-time drama, we’re incredibly excited about it and hope audiences will fall as much in love with this compelling new series as we have.”

Produced by Shine Australia, Catching Milat is another highlight of the Shine International catalogue.
