Reed MIDEM Provides Update on European Airport Strikes

PARIS: Though it now appears that air traffic controllers in a number of European countries will be striking on October 10, the last day of MIPCOM, it remains unclear whether this will actually disrupt any of the scheduled flights in France.

French law, however, guarantees that at least 50 percent of the scheduled flights from France must be maintained during any industrial action. Reed MIDEM has also been informed by the French Civil Aviation Authority that airlines normally do maintain long-haul international flights during industrial action.

Reed MIDEM is suggesting the travelers contact airlines directly to determine how they intend to handle their flights on October 10 and to ask whether travel plans should be altered. Train services from Cannes to most major European cities will be available should connecting flights originating from Nice be impacted.

To help minimize any potential impact on MIPCOM attendees, Reed MIDEM is setting up a Travel Clinic that will be available in the MIPCOM Registration zone, as of October 8, to provide travel advice, make new reservations and issue airline tickets if needed. The MIPCOM Concierge and Help Desk will also be ready to assist. On October 9 and 10, Reed MIDEM will be adding more buses to shuttle between Cannes and Nice airport that operates on the hour, every hour, between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. The number of taxis available will also be increased, with dispatchers encouraging taxi sharing.
