Traces’ Molly Windsor & Nicola Shindler

The UKTV original forensic crime drama Traces stars Molly Windsor (Cheat) as Emma Hedges, a young lab assistant at the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science who, after signing up for an online class on forensics, soon discovers that the case study for the course is eerily similar to her own mother’s murder. She begins doing some detective work of her own, and alongside two of her professors, played by Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad) and Jennifer Spence (Travelers), Emma tries to unravel the truth behind the unsolved crime.

The six-part series was written by Amelia Bullmore and based on an idea from best-selling crime writer Val McDermid (the Hill/Jordan books). Red Production Company’s Nicola Shindler is one of the series’ executive producers, and she and Windsor sat down with TV Drama’s Mansha Daswani to talk about why it’s important to have a team of female scientists lead the show and what they learned themselves about the field of forensics during production.
