New EP for BBC One’s Casualty, Holby City

Simon Harper has officially become an executive producer for BBC One’s Casualty and Holby City.

Harper has been acting executive producer of both of the BBC Studios continuing dramas since January 2017. He began his TV career at Channel 4 drama in 2004 before joining the BBC’s independent drama commissioning department in 2005, working across shows such as Hustle, Rome and Robin Hood. In 2006, Harper moved to continuing drama, joining Holby City initially as a script editor then script producer before becoming series producer in 2013.

Harper said: “I’m delighted and honored to be entrusted with the guardianship of the U.K.’s two most loved medical dramas. Holby City and Casualty are brilliant, distinct and ultimately sister shows, so sitting across both feels like heading up one big talented family.”

BBC Studios’ head of continuing drama, Oliver Kent, commented: “Simon has one of the very best brains in U.K. television drama and his contribution to Holby City over the last ten years has been immense. It’s excellent news that he will now take responsibility for Casualty as well. He has an exemplary record in developing creative talent in all areas of production and is a proud champion of diversity.”
