One Life Studios has licensed the historical drama series Porus to SVOD platform Hulu in Japan, which also picked up the Spanish thriller Locked Up from Imagina International Sales.

Porus centers on the warriors who fought against Alexander the Great. “Being the first premier Indian television content to be associated with one of the top OTT platforms in Japan—Hulu—proves that quality content can be of any language; if made well, it will [resonate] with audiences worldwide,” said Rahul Kumar Tewary, One Life’s managing director. “We are sure audiences in Japan, with a similar culture, will appreciate Porus.”

Siddharth Kumar Tewary, writer, director and producer of the period drama, noted: “Porus is the first Indian series to be aired in Japan—this is really special for all of us. We had dreamt to make Porus as India’s first global series and now covering 11 countries and 14 territories; we are moving in the right direction.”

Kazufumi Nagasawa, the chief content officer for Hulu Japan, added: “We are thrilled to introduce our first acquisition of an Indian drama series, Porus, to the audience in Japan. We are keen to introduce unique and outstanding shows, which Japanese audiences will not have a chance to watch if Hulu Japan does not exist.”

Hulu Japan also closed an agreement for the exclusive premiere rights to the four seasons of Locked Up (Vis a Vis), an Atresmedia original series produced by Globomedia. The series will arrive for Japanese viewers in 2019, both in its subtitled and dubbed version. The first episode will be aired in the country as promotion on Nippon TV, parent company of Hulu Japan, as part of its program “Hulu Episode-1 Theatre.” The thriller is the first Spanish series to be released on Hulu Japan’s platform.

Nagasawa said, “We are thrilled to introduce our first acquisition of a Spanish drama series Locked Up (Vis a Vis) to the audience in Japan. We are keen to introduce unique and outstanding shows which the Japanese audience will not have a chance to watch if Hulu Japan does not exist.”

“We are really happy Locked Up arrives to Hulu Japan going on with its international travel and we are sure Japanese viewers will be captivated by this amazing thriller,” added Beatriz Setuain, director of Imagina International Sales.
