Filming Begins for Mark Gatiss’s Bookish

Filming has begun for the six-part drama Bookish, a new series created by Emmy Award-winning writer Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Doctor Who) for UKTV’s Alibi.

Bookish, set in London in 1946, centers on the unconventional Gabriel Book, who helps the police solve a variety of mysterious crimes from his antiquarian bookshop. The series will feature three main cases, with each storyline spanning two episodes.

Gatiss is starring as Book. Previously announced cast members include Polly Walker (Bridgerton, Line of Duty), Joely Richardson (The Gentleman, The Ballad of Renegade Nell), Daniel Mays (The Long Shadow, Code 404), Jonas Nay (Deutschland 83, Concordia), Connor Finch (Everything I Know About Love), Elliot Levey (We Were the Lucky Ones, Quiz) and Buket Kömür (Our House).

Newly added cast members are Blake Harrison (Still Up, World on Fire), Rosie Cavaliero (The Power of Parker, Funny Woman), Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (Bodies, The Great), Tom Forbes (Champion, Rules of the Game), Amanda Drew (The Gold, Wolf) Luke Norris (Poldark, The Girl Before), Ella Bruccoleri (Call the Midwife, Passenger) and Michael Workéyè (Playdate, This is Going to Hurt).

Bookish is being produced by Eagle Eye Drama in association with Happy Duck Films. It is filming in Belgium and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. Beta Film is handling international sales.

The series is co-written by Gatiss and Matthew Sweet. Carolina Giammetta (Suspect season two, Hollington Drive) is directing.
