The Cartel Opens Office in Winnipeg

The Cartel is launching Cartel Pictures Canada to bolster its independent and TV production business in Winnipeg.

Under the helm of partners Stan Spry and Eric Woods, as well as Cartel’s VP of production, Anthony Fankhauser, the new venture will focus on production, financing and development of TV movies, independent films and TV series. The Winnipeg office will open September 1.

In the last year, the Cartel has produced four TV movies for Hallmark in Winnipeg, including Christmas Connection, One Winter Weekend, Love in Design and Under the Autumn Moon. The Cartel will be producing two more Hallmark movies via the new Canadian office this year and will also be producing three independent films before the end of the year.

“We shoot all around the world, from the United States to Mexico, from Fiji to Canada,” said Eric Woods, the company’s co-CEO. “Winnipeg has been very good to us as a robust production hub. We are excited to ramp up our Canadian production slate, which will help supplement our U.S. and worldwide production business. Our goal is to be producing a minimum of 20 projects next year, with around 8 to 10 in Winnipeg.”
