VANCOUVER: CBC has appointed Sally Catto as the executive director of commissioned and scripted programming, covering genres such as drama, comedy, children’s and factual.

Catto will report to Kirstine Stewart, the executive VP of CBC English Services. Catto’s initial focus will be to reorganize the department to streamline the administration and management and update it to ensure that resources are focused on content creation. She comes to the role after having served as the executive director of arts and entertainment for CBC. Catto takes over for Trevor Walton, who becomes the head of co-productions.

"I’m delighted to be working with the tremendous talent both within the CBC and across the country," said Catto. "CBC’s ability to tell the kinds of high-quality, engaging, and above-all Canadian stories that audiences expect from us makes this position all the more appealing."

Stewart commented, "It’s important given the wide reach across Canada of the CBC that our activities be represented in communities outside of Toronto to complement those which are here."
