TORONTO: VICELAND in Canada has given the go-ahead to six new series, including the network’s first scripted title, Nirvanna The Band The Show.

Commissioned by Rogers Media, the original programming slate will all be produced by VICE through VICE Studio Canada. Nirvanna The Band The Show is a ten-part, 30-minute comedy series following two lifelong best friends and roommates as they plan to start a musical act, even though they’ve never played a note.

Other new productions include the culinary adventure program Dead Set on Life, starring celebrity chef Matty Matheson; the tech docuseries Cyberwar, hosted by VICE journalist Ben Makuch; Abandoned, a travel show starring skateboarder Rick McCrank; RISE, a docuseries set on the frontlines of Indigenous resistance; and the economy-focused Payday.

“The quality of the creative talent in Canada rivals any country in the world and we are fiercely committed to homegrown content,” said Colette Watson, the VP of broadcast and TV operations at Rogers. “We’re so proud of the content being produced by VICE through this joint venture, and we can’t wait to share it with viewers not only here in Canada, but also around the globe.”

“We are thrilled to introduce the next generation of VICE talent with our upcoming slate of original programming,” said Michael Kronish, the executive VP of television and online at VICE Canada. “Each host brings a unique set of experiences and expertise that further diversifies VICELAND’s already robust programming.”
