Breakthrough Lands International Deals

TORONTO: Breakthrough Entertainment has closed sales for a range of its documentary, reality and animated content, including a U.S. deal with CNBC for its documentary special Customer (Dis)Service.

Customer (Dis)Service is produced by the Canadian documentary filmmaker Generator Films. It chronicles the global battle between consumers and corporations who seek to cut costs for profitability at the expense of customer satisfaction. Further U.S. deals include the factual series War of the Wheels and Combat, which were sold to MAV TV, and the children’s’ series The Droogles and Swap TV, picked up by Dish Network/Blockbuster USA.

In addition, a multi-regional deal for Clash of Cultures: China and the West was secured with AETN Asia. The special explores the turbulent interaction between China and the Western powers throughout the 19th century and how it contributed to China’s recent growth as a world leader. Breakthrough also sold The Future Revealed to Vietnam Television; Countdown to the Future to i-CABLE (Hong Kong); and Customer (Dis)Service and the factual series Legend Hunters to True Branded Channel (Thailand).

In Europe and the Middle East, Breakthrough sold the reality series Plastic Makes Perfect to Nelonen Media (Finland) and The Truth About Shoplifting and Crackberry’d: The Truth About Information Overload to Alhurra Televison and Canal+ Cyfrowy. In addition, the claymation series What It’s Like Being Alone was picked up by Telekanal 2×2 (Russia) and TRT (Turkey) and the children’s series Dino Dan was sold to YLE (Finland), CTC Kazakhstan and Piwi+ (Canal+ Group in France). Scitech TV (Turkey) opted for the factual series Innovation Nation, Science of the Senses, The Future Revealed and Countdown to the Future.
