LONDON: Ken Munekata is joining BBC Worldwide in the role of president for Japan, after having served nearly three decades at Sony Corporation.

Based in Tokyo, Munekata will be responsible for the commercial activities and strategic development for BBC Worldwide across its sales and distribution and consumer products businesses, as well as live events and theatrical distribution. He will report to Joyce Yeung, the general manager and senior VP of BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution Asia.

Most recently, Munekata served in the dual roles of president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and president of Sony Broadcast Media. In his new post at BBC Worldwide, Munekata succeeds Katsuhiko Waza, who announced his retirement in 2011, having been president of BBC Worldwide Japan since it was founded in 2000.

Yeung commented, “I’m delighted that Ken will be heading up our business in Japan. With his extensive management and business development experience in the Japanese media industry, I’m confident he will bring new growth opportunities to BBC Worldwide Japan and create collaboration with other Asian territories.”
