Nat Geo Docs Headed to Tencent in China

SINGAPORE: FOX International Channels (FIC) has struck a deal to bring National Geographic Channel (NGC) documentaries to streaming platform Tencent Video in China.

The service will run a Nat Geo branded block delivering more than 300 hours of content in 2015. The deal will also see Tencent Video and NGC co-producing China-focused docs.

“National Geographic Channel content is high-quality, best-in-class programming that is designed to inspire viewers," said Tony Qi, territory head for China at FIC. "We are excited that with Tencent’s extensive and innovative network, we will be able to bring NGC content to even a wider audience in China.”

SY Lau, senior executive VP of Tencent and president of Tencent Online Media Group, added, “One of our priorities is to introduce premium content in China. We are very pleased to form the partnership with FOX International Channels for National Geographic Channel programming. With NGC’s expertise on documentaries, we will co-develop programs focusing on this fas- moving society. We are looking forward to bringing world-class content to Chinese viewers.”
