DW Increases Presence in Vietnam

BONN: Thanks to an expanded partnership with Vietnamese telecommunications provider FPT, the new English channel from Deutsche Welle (DW) has joined FPT's OTT television service.

The recent launch of DW's international English-language channel on FPT Play has given DW an additional 5 million users in Vietnam. Following a Facebook initiative kicked off by DW and FPT earlier this month, more than 30,000 users have viewed DW using the service. DW's English channel is also available on FPT's IPTV service on channel 37. DW on FPT Play is an expansion on FPT's IPTV service, which has offered DW since 2009.

DW on FPT (OTT and IPTV) offers a variety of programming with Vietnamese subtitles, including Arts.21, Close Up, Documentaries and Reports, Discover Germany, Drive It!, Global 3000, In Good Shape, Life Links and Tomorrow Today. There is also DW News with 24/7 international news in English.

Petra Schneider, DW's director of distribution, commented: "We are excited about this collaboration with FPT, as it enables our target audience in Vietnam to access our unique programming via FPT Play app that is accessible through mobile, smart TV and web services."
