SYDNEY: Tim Worner, Seven Network’s long-time head of programming, has been elevated to CEO of the Australian network.

David Leckie, who has been Seven’s CEO, is now CEO of the network’s parent company, Seven West Media. Worner reports to him in the new role. Leckie previously indicated plans to retire in 2012.

A new director of programming and production has yet to be named.

"We are delighted that Tim has accepted this role," said Seven’s owner, Kerry Stokes. "He is an outstanding executive and has played a key role in Seven’s success. Tim’s intimate knowledge of programming and production provide him with the experience to ensure Seven’s continuing success.

Leckie added: "Tim’s the best in the business and has built a great team. He’ll be terrific in his new role as chief executive of television for Seven West Media and I am looking forward to working with him to continue our group’s success. We are well-placed and ready to further build Seven West Media’s success."

"I am honored to be asked to lead the talented and committed group of people which makes up the Seven Network. It is a group which has delivered such an outstanding result this year," Worner said. "I look forward to working with David to ensure that we build on the momentum we’ve got going. We are finalizing our plan for 2012 and the very clear aim is to maintain our position as the most attractive and best-performing media brand in Australia."
